Sixth form goes by quickly. There is more to it than getting good A-Level results and applying to university.
Throughout your time at PTEM, there are things you should keep track of, experiences you should build and decisions you should start preparing for.
Think of this as your checklist for making the most of your time at PTEM.
Your CES logbook is your personal tracker, record and journal throughout sixth form.
Use it to keep track of the things you have explored, the experiences you have gained, the skills you have developed, your achievements and the plans you are making.
Don't wait until the end of sixth form to fill it in. Record things as you go.
Your A-Level grades are important, but your development doesn't stop in the classroom.
Look for opportunities to develop your skills, interests and experiences through activities such as:
Supercurricular activities
Soft skills development
Leadership and student-led activities
Competitions and projects
Work experience and attachments
Volunteering and community activities
Courses, talks and university events
Choose opportunities that are meaningful to you, and remember to reflect on what you learn from them.
University courses can have different requirements. These may include:
Minimum and predicted grades
Required A-Level subjects
University admissions tests
English language proficiency tests
Interviews or other selection processes
Application deadlines
Don't assume that every university or course has the same requirements.
Your task: Research your intended courses early and keep track of any requirements or deadlines that apply to you.
Your academic performance affects the options available to you.
Keep track of your grades, identify areas where you need to improve and seek support when necessary.
Don't wait until your final results to start thinking about your academic progress.
Your task: Know where you are now, know where you want to be and take action when you are falling short.
You don't have to figure everything out on your own.
Speak to your teachers when you need academic support, and come to Careers when you need help with your future plans, university applications, scholarships, career options or other post-A-Level decisions.
You can also make use of the resources available through the PTEM Careers website, Google Classroom and CES.
Your task: If you're stuck, unsure or overwhelmed, ask. It's better to seek help early than to wait until a deadline is approaching.
Your time at PTEM is preparing you for what comes next, whether that's university, employment, further training or another pathway.
As you progress through sixth form, start thinking about:
What you want to do after A-Levels
Which courses, institutions or pathways interest you
How you will fund your plans
What applications or tests you need to complete
What skills and experiences you want to develop
What you need to do next
You don't need to have your entire future planned out. Keep exploring, keep developing and keep moving forward.
Your sixth form journey is yours.
Use CES to keep track of it, make use of the opportunities around you, and ask for help when you need it.
Explore. Identify. Plan. Do.
