Assalamualaikum and good morning dear Tutors,
The Careers Team has an update for all tutors regarding *letters of recommendations* for our students who are applying for the new *JPMC College of Health Sciences Nursing Diploma Scholarship* starting this year onwards.
Applying students need *two* letters of recommendation and the Careers Team will prepare one of them as part of the school's official letter of recommendation.
For U6 leavers who are applying, we will base it on the U6 references collected through the regular yearly collection of references process. If their references are empty, we will ask tutors to fill in their references.
For U6, their only feasible option is to get a letter of recommendation from one of their subject tutors.
It is your prerogative whether or not to agree to write one, and the Careers section are more than happy to provide a template for you to use.
But do know that without this second letter of recommendation, it will disadvantage their application.
For L6 students who are applying, our advice is that they go to their previous school's career section and subject tutors. If that is not possible, then the team will go around and have a chat with all their PTEM tutors for a quick character confirmation.
As far as possible, if the career members find that one of our own students are applying, we will take care of both letters of recommendation, but if this is not the case, then we hope you can help your students out in their application.
As this is new this year and will most likely continue in future years, we hope for you kind understanding on the matter. Thank you
Sincerely,
Hafizuddin Hassan
Good afternoon dear tutors,
From the Careers Team, we would like to mention a few things this afternoon:
First of all, thank you to all tutors involved during open day for your cooperation and understanding especially with regards to our section Careers. We tried our best to give the best subject combination for students given their grades, ambitions and your subject requirements.
Open day mostly ran smoothly so well done to all of us and thank you for your live updates as well as feedback. We have updated the form for next year for you to give live updates for your subject and we will take that into account when we give advice to students.
Thank you as well for all your feedback and we will use them to improve our service in the future. We are also planning to mark with an asterix* for problematic cases on the students form instead of updating you the code numbers.
Lastly, thank you to all sections and departments involved for helping us run our part so smoothly during open day this year.
Thank you as well to all group tutors for forwarding our programmes and activities to your students especially the recent Sakura Programme. There is one more coming up this Saturday for you to forward. We have been getting students to voluntarily join them, which is good. I will continue to forward opportunities to students and it is up to them if they want to grab them or not.
There are talks and programmes scheduled in the future and I would like to thank you all in advance for your kind understanding and cooperation.
This year for our previous batch of students, out of the 52 potential scholars we asked references for, 35 of them were interested in applying via UCAS but only 27 sent their application and as results came out, we expect this number to reduce further and we are currently now awaiting news from the scholarship section around June 2023. But of course, the references are not only for them, but to any of our students coming back to us to ask for references in the future which is why it is important for all of us to continue to provide those references as we do not know who will be needing references in the future to further studies or as character reference.
We are also currently running Multi-Mini-Interview (MMI) practice sessions with our potential scholars.
Lastly, a shameless self-promo from me, as you might already know or have experienced firsthand, the Careers Section are always actively looking for new members to join us so if you are interested to know how much fun it is to work in Careers, just come over and ask us and we'll serve you coffee/tea :) We work hard but we also take our downtime seriously. Pursue a satisfying, gratifying and rewarding career in Careers in the near future and inquire today :P
We have provided you with the latest student statistics below based on a questionnaire sent to our alumni for the year 2020-2021. To that, I wish to congratulate all the tutors here for all your hard work in helping our students transition to the next stage in their lives. Nonetheless, I am sure we would like to continue to help our students achieve greater heights in the future.
Sincerely,
Hafizuddin Hassan
Good afternoon dear tutors,
From the Careers Section, we would like to mention a few things this afternoon as we want to be transparent with all of you:
We are sharing with you guidelines for tutors (shown above) dispensing career advice as we believe you are your students' first port of call for seeking Career Advice. You now have the digital copy given to you via the link we have provided on our PTEM Staff Whatsapp group. You also have the hard copy in your respective pigeonhole.
We have also given all the U6 students a Careers Booklet hard copy that contains a checklist of all of the important things they need to do, all of the Careers planning information they can access and all the important dates that they need to be aware of. This is to ensure that students will be aware of the deadlines, especially deadlines for HECAS.
Also, if you are an U6 group tutor and haven't returned the signature slips for student receipt of booklets and Google Classroom signups, please do so at the earliest opportunity. We do note the challenges of doing so during this time but eventually we need the full record of students signing up for accountability to Unit Kerjaya, Kementerian Pendidikan.
We have provided you with the latest student statistics based on a questionnaire sent to our alumni for the year 2019-2020. To that, I wish to congratulate all the tutors here for all your hard work in helping our students transition to the next stage in their lives. Nonetheless, I am sure we would like to continue to help our students achieve greater heights in the future.
One way to help achieve that by helping complete students references which we will issue after results come out and will be due by the end of October.
We would also like to inform that there is a PKBN Talk conducted for upper 6 students on 22nd September which was supposed to be our Careers Symposium date but will not be happening this year. There will be some disruptions that day to the timetable but this is required for all U6 students throughout the country.
Last but not least, if there are students that you feel have potential or would like to encourage to pursue scholarship, please feel free to drop by our office for a chat and coffee. We are always open to having a chat with you about our students.
Sincerely,
Wan Farah Latif
