Applicants for Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry are allowed to apply to only four different UK universities, including either Oxford or Cambridge. Applications are made via UCAS.
UCAS
UCAS normally has a maximum of 5 choices but for the following options, there are choice restrictions:
Medicine, Veterinary, Dentistry - maximum 4 choices
Oxford or Cambridge
Deadline: 15 October
Academic Requirements
Typical academic entry requirements: AAA in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry
Additional Academic Requirements
UK universities also require you to sit for either the BMAT or the UCAT as part of your application. Check the links below to see which university requires the BMAT or the UCAT. Please note that you can only take each test ONCE per application cycle.
Non-Academic Requirements
Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science are people-facing careers, and so, they do demand people skills such as empathy and teamwork. Volunteering greatly assists in developing these skills.
Universities also value candidates who apply for an attachment for experience. RIPAS is very limited in slots for attachments, and the dates are normally announced at the beginning of the academic year. The Careers Section will normally announce when the slots are released at the beginning of the year. JPMC is available for attachment throughout, but they will require additional documentation (2 passport photos, photocopy of IC, letter of intent, most recent education transcripts / results). Do drop by the Careers Section for further advice on how to apply.
If you are unable to apply for attachment, it does not greatly disadvantage your application. However, you definitely should check out the "Guidance" PDF provided in the link to get a clearer idea of what you can do to supplement your application: https://www.medschools.ac.uk/news/msc-releases-guidance-on-relevant-experience-to-study-medicine-during-the-covid-19-pandemic
It is always a good idea to have a back-up plan! If you plan to apply to Medicine or Dentistry in the UK, we also advise applying for the same courses at UBD. Please check out the link below.
